Rainbow/Roundy's Coupon Policy Change

>> Wednesday, December 23, 2009

It's official. I just returned home from my Rainbow and they would not double any of my coupons. Even those from the newspaper inserts, because they all stated DND/DNT. The computer system will still automatically do it, so they were going to manually enter each coupon for half of it's value, so when the computer doubled it automatically, it was only giving me the face value of the coupon off.

I talked to the store manager about and she said that this is not a one-time thing for this week only. This is the new Roundy's coupon policy. No more automatic double of the first five coupon you hand over.

I actually ended up not getting any groceries this morning, since all of my coupons would have been rejected from doubling under their new policy. I do plan to write a letter to the Roundy's corporate office requesting a written copy of their coupon/double coupon policy so that it can be crystal clear for future shopping trips.

The same thing happened to me. The actually got a calculator out to figure out what half of 75 cents is. I'm no longer shopping at Rainbow, it's not worth my time to wait in line on wednesdays if i can go to any other store any day of the week and have my coupons equally valued.
Sincerely, One former Rainbow shopper

I think what makes this more frustrating than anything, is it is still so inconsistent. It is their policy to not double those that state DND, it's a way to limit how much loss Rainbow has to take while still offering this promo to get shoppers in the door.

But, so many stores or individual cashiers choose to double everything, it's really hard to know what to expect when you go.

My sister-in-law had one cashier, just in the last couple of weeks, tell her that if the register didn't double a coupon, he would make it double. It just depends and where you are and who you get.

I think if Rainbow/Roundy's was smart, they would lift that portion of the policy, since it still has nothing to do with the manufacturer, and by having and enforcing this policy, they reduce the appeal of their program, which makes in ineffective in attracting customers to their stores. As they are certainly not the cheapest price in town without the double coupon day, and if it weren't for this program I would most certainly shop elsewhere and save more money.

I'm sure more and more will be learned and said about this for weeks and months to come until Rainbow/Roundy's makes some sort of change or strictly enforce the policy across the board. That is the only way they will regain happy customers.

There's my soapbox, I'm stepping down now. :o)
